Galaxy Explorer Collection
Mostarle + Focal

For several years, Mostarle and Focal have collaborated across a variety of content projects, exploring new ways to showcase the brand's growing collection of buildable models. What began as traditional social media content gradually evolved into a larger creative conversation: how could these products be presented in a way that felt less like a demonstration and more like an experience?
For the launch of the Galaxy Explorer Collection, Focal set out to answer that question through stop motion animation.

The collection set features three models — a rocket, a satellite, and a UFO — each designed to be built and displayed. Rather than focusing solely on the assembly process or the finished pieces, the goal was to create a video that highlighted the tangible nature of the models, the fact that they are buildable, and more importantly, that it felt fantastic and unique.
Shot entirely on a practical set constructed on a desk, the video embraces the real scale of the models while allowing them to behave as if they existed in their own world.
Each transition reinforces the connection between the three models while celebrating the buildable nature of the collection itself.

Creating the transformations required careful planning and a lot of precision. Every movement needed to feel intentional, particularly during the floating sequences. The challenge was to create the subtle, almost imperceptible shifts associated with zero gravity — small adjustments that would make a satellite feel suspended in space or a UFO appear to glide effortlessly through the air.
The final sequence introduced an additional layer of complexity. To create the UFO's retractor beam effect, the production combined practical animation, controlled lighting changes, compositing, and visual effects. As the beam activates, the entire atmosphere of the set transforms, requiring individual elements to be animated and treated separately before being brought together in post-production.

By keeping the models grounded in a real, recognizable environment while allowing them to perform the impossible, the video captures both what the Galaxy Explorer Collection is and what it invites its audience to imagine.
